Gosana Butterfly (Lepidoptera) Farm.
Gosana butterfly
farm had its first breeding
life in April 2009.it is part and
parcel of Gosana Nature and Culture Reserve which was developed
to generate income for the Good Samaritan Vision Orphanage.
Butterfly rearing / farming is deemed natural and indeed cultural because of their availability in our forests since time in memorial. The beauty is that we are conserving our forests as a habitat of the very wild butterflies so that we can always hunt them and transfer them into our cages for commercial breeding.
THIS IS HOW IT WORKS
We capture butterflies from the forests and introduce them into our cage. Inside the cage they mate and the female of course lays approximately 200 eggs.
The eggs hatch into larvae and the larvae develop into the penultimate cyclical stage of the pupae.
It is the pupae that we are interested in since once sold out it brings income to the farmer / orphanage.
YOU WILL SEE……..!! BUTTERFLY SHOWER CAGES
These are box like small cages, specially designed to accommodate adult Butterflies or pupae which are about to hatch into mature butterflies. then reason is that the Butterflies serve as ornaments which can be released during functions such as birthday parties, wedding and generally a honourable way of welcoming guests. We do have butterfly welcoming showers every Friday.
THE HATCHERY
This is a structure which is used to house the pupae in readiness to hatch into adult Butterflies. It equally serves as a big shower cage since Butterflies can be released as they hatch. Some of the butterflies can be released into the wild. It is at the hatchery where we will also experience the packing of the pupae for export. The rest of ornaments and artifacts will be exhibited on the information boards within the cage and at the Showroom.
BUTTERFLY CYCLICAL LIFE
